Tank PR has been chosen to re-launch Shipstone’s – one of the most iconic names in British brewing.
The famous brand is set to return following a 20-year hiatus after Richard Neale, a former sales director at AB-InBev, acquired the rights to the Shipstone’s name.
Following a competitive pitch, Tank PR was chosen to work alongside Richard to bring the brand back to life, as Shipstone’s Bitter returns to pubs, bars and retail outlets.
Commenting on the account win, Tank PR director Trevor Palmer, said:
“This is an exciting account for the team as we have three very distinct target audiences – consumers who remember Shipstone’s the first time around, the new younger generation of ale drinkers and, of course, the trade.
“Accounts like this with real heritage don’t come around that often, and it’s rewarding for us that Richard recognised that we’re the best agency to handle this for him.”
Tank PR’s initial focus will be on Shipstone’s Bitter, available in 500ml bottles, with further product ranges due to be launched over the coming year.
For Richard, the campaign is a very personal one:
“Being a Nottingham boy myself, Shipstone’s holds a lot of memories as being something the city was proud of. This is why I wanted to bring it back with the brand’s history and heritage at its heart, and needed the right agency to help me do this.
“Tank PR’s experience and innovative approach stood out and the team has already exceeded my initial expectations.”
Shipstone’s has a history dating back to 1852 when James Shipstone opened his first brewery in Nottingham. The company stayed in the family for 120 years before being sold in 1978, leading to brewing in the city ending in 1990.
Tank PR’s other product and FMCG PR experience includes the Robomow from Mower Magic and fitness equipment range Versaclimber UK. Other clients in the award-winning agency’s portfolio include housebuilder Miller Homes and Pall-Ex, the freight business of entrepreneur and TV business expert Hilary Devey CBE.
